Can I cut an extension cord to use it as a power cord?

I have a ducting exhaust fan that I bought from a hardware store, but it is not equipped
with a power cord. It has two wires where it says to connect a power cord. Could I cut
a small extension cord, split it, strip the two ends, and connect these two ends to the exhaust
fan wires? Would this work? After all, all the extension cord wire is just copper wire, right?

i agree with mr. bible. if your going to install this fan permanent than it needs to be hard wired an done right otherwise you might have a fire
