Vista PC asks for pen drive when trying to set a new password?

My mum’s password has stopped working when she tries to sign in to Vista after boot up. When I click to reset it, it says I need to connect a pen drive or floppy disk. (Neither of which I have with me – anyway, I can’t see how this would help!). Anyone seen this before?

The first answer was correct in stating that the pen drive is an option you have to create a “password reset disk.” This basically stores information to an external drive that allows you to authenticate your identity in case you forget your password. Unfortunately, with Vista, there’s not much you can do once your forget your password, except to delete the current account and create a new one. Even in this situation, where your mum’s password isn’t working, the same scenario applies.

However, I’ve noticed that after letting my computer sleep or hibernate for long periods of time, my password stops working (I also use Vista.) Alternately, if I restart my computer after letting it sleep or hibernate for a long time, my password will resume its normal operation of the computer. Could this be the case with your mum’s password?
